Short answers to the questions merchants ask most. Each answer links to the page with the full detail.
Billing
When does a plan change take effect?
A new plan starts when you approve the charge on Shopify's subscription page. On an upgrade, the higher limits apply at once. On a downgrade, the app warns you about each feature the lower plan does not include — and it deletes nothing. See Plans, billing & limits.
Will I ever be charged more than my plan price?
No. Every plan has a flat monthly price, with no usage charges and no revenue share. When you pass a monthly limit, the app degrades gracefully instead of charging you. See Plans, billing & limits.
The dashboard
How do I use the dashboard with more than one store?
The dashboard shows one store at a time. To change to a different store, do one of these:
- Open the app in that store's Shopify admin, then click Open PersonalizerAI dashboard.
- In the dashboard, open the account menu at the top right and click Switch store. Enter the other store's address, then click Sign in.
When you sign in to a different store, this browser leaves the first store. Your other devices stay signed in.
A dashboard sign-in lasts 24 hours. After that, the dashboard asks you to sign in again through Shopify, then returns you to the page you were on.
Performance
Does the app slow my store down?
The app adds one small stylesheet and one script to your storefront, served from a fast content network. The script loads in the background, so it does not delay your page content. Widgets fill in after the page shows. The app does not edit your theme's own code.
Compatibility
Does the app work with my theme?
App blocks work on every Online Store 2.0 theme — that covers almost every current Shopify theme. Themes with a Legacy badge do not support app blocks; you cannot place widgets on their pages, but cart drawer recommendations and tracking still work. The Diagnostics tab on Widgets checks your theme. The cart drawer strip finds Dawn-family drawers on its own; for other themes, set Drawer selector (advanced). See Add widgets to your theme.
Your data
What happens to my data when I uninstall?
The app stops serving your storefront immediately. Shopify then sends the deletion request, and the app deletes your store's data everywhere it lives. Rotating backups can hold a copy for up to 30 days; they rotate out on their own. See Privacy & shopper consent.
Does the app respect my cookie banner?
Yes. The app reads each shopper's decision through Shopify's Customer Privacy API — there is nothing to configure. When a shopper declines tracking, the app collects no events for that shopper. See Privacy & shopper consent.
Search
What does search include on the Free plan?
Keyword search only. Semantic search and AI query understanding start on the Starter plan. Keyword search matches the words in the query; semantic search also matches the meaning. See How search works.
Why did AI search pause in the middle of the month?
Your store passed its monthly AI searches limit. Search continues in keyword mode until the counters reset on the first day of the next month. Upgrade at any time — the higher limit applies at once. See Troubleshooting under "The app says a limit is reached".
Recommendations
Why does a model say "Needs data"?
The model is below its minimum data. The Needs data badge is in the Model readiness list of the Store health card, on the app's Home screen in your Shopify admin. In the PersonalizerAI dashboard, also check the model's card on Recommendations → Models: Off means the model is turned off, and On — not placed on your theme yet means no widget uses it. The dashboard's model table does not use this label: a model with nothing in the selected period is listed under not used in this period instead, and a model you turned off is not listed at all. Your widgets do not go empty: a fallback chain serves a simpler model in the meantime. See Model settings that matter and Dashboard & KPIs.
Can I choose the exact products a widget shows?
Yes, per anchor product: a Hand-Picked curation replaces the model's output with your own picks. For broader control — boost, bury, pin, or exclude across many products — use merchandising rules (Growth plan and up). See Hand-picked & custom models and Merchandising rules.
Can I build my own recommendation logic?
Yes. A Custom Blend (Pro plan and up) lets you set the source products, the target products, and how they match — no code. Embedding similarity needs the Custom plan. See Hand-picked & custom models.
