Every email the app sends, which ones you can turn off, and where the same messages appear inside the app.
The app contacts you in two places. Some events create a notification inside the PersonalizerAI dashboard. Some events also send an email. A few do both. You control the emails from one screen: Settings → Email preferences in the PersonalizerAI dashboard.
What the app sends, and when
These are the thirteen emails the app sends today. The last column names the switch that controls each one on Settings → Email preferences.
When it arrives | Controlled by | |
|---|---|---|
Welcome | Right after you install the app. It arrives again if you uninstall and install again. | Always sent |
Your catalog is ready | Once, when your first catalog sync finishes. It names how many products are indexed, how many wait over your plan limit, and how many were skipped as drafts or archived items. A later full sync does not send it again. | Always sent |
Customer data export ready | When a shopper asks your store for a copy of their data (a Shopify data request) and we have compiled what we hold about them. Download it from Settings → Privacy requests in the app and pass it on to the shopper. | Always sent |
Your subscription is active | When you approve a charge on Shopify's subscription page. | Always sent |
Your store is now on the Free plan | When your subscription ends and your store returns to the Free plan. Recommendations and search keep running with Free's limits, and the email lists what stops. | Always sent |
You have reached your limit | When a monthly limit reaches 100%. It lists what changed on your storefront. See Plans, billing & limits. | Always sent |
You are at 80% of your limit | When a monthly limit reaches 80%. Nothing has changed on your storefront yet — this is advance notice. You get it at most once a month. | Billing alerts |
New recommendation models are ready | After a sync, when one or more models have collected enough data to serve. It does not arrive on your first sync — the catalog email covers that. | Product updates |
Your A/B test has a winner | When a test finishes. This covers both cases: you call the winner yourself, or the app calls it for you. See A/B testing. | Product updates |
Your test was paused by its safety guardrail | When a running A/B test pauses itself because a variant is very likely doing worse than control. Every shopper then sees your current settings. A test you pause yourself, or one paused by a plan change, sends no email. See A/B testing. | Product updates |
Your first attributed order | Once, when a shopper places the first order on your store after clicking a PersonalizerAI widget. | Product updates |
Your trial ends soon | Only on a plan with a free trial: 3 days and 1 day before the trial ends. Shopify then starts to bill the plan. | Always sent |
Your week in review | Every Monday, for the previous Monday to Sunday. It shows attributed revenue and the change on the week before, recommendation click-through, searches, searches that returned nothing, and your top searches. | Weekly performance summary |
Where notifications appear in the app
Open the PersonalizerAI dashboard and click Notifications under Overview. The page lists your notifications on the left and the full message on the right.
- Filter with the tabs All, Unread, Critical, and AI.
- Narrow the period with 7 days, 30 days, or All time.
- Click Mark all as read to clear the unread count, or dismiss a single notification.
A notification shows an Emailed marker when the app also sent you that message by email, with the time it went out. No marker means the message stayed inside the app.
Most notifications carry a button in the detail panel, for example Review plan. The button opens the PersonalizerAI dashboard screen that matches the message — Review plan opens Settings → Billing. A few messages point at a screen that only exists in your Shopify admin, such as the widget placements. Those buttons open the app in Shopify in a new window.

The Notifications page. The Emailed marker means the same message also reached your inbox.
Not every notification becomes an email, and not every email becomes a notification:
Message | In the app | By email |
|---|---|---|
Usage at 80% and at 100% | Yes | Yes |
New recommendation models are ready | Yes | Yes |
A/B test winner, or a test paused by its guardrail | Yes | Yes |
Your first attributed order | Yes | Yes |
Your trial ends soon | Yes | Yes |
Products waiting over your plan limit | Yes | No |
Your theme changed, or a widget stopped matching it | Yes | No |
A lower plan conflicts with your current setup | Yes | No |
Welcome, catalog ready, subscription changes, weekly summary | No | Yes |
Choose which emails you receive
- Open the PersonalizerAI dashboard.
- Go to Settings → Email preferences.
- Turn the switches under Categories on or off.
- Click Save changes.
There are three switches. Together they cover every email you can turn off. The other emails are always sent — the next section lists them.
Switch | What it controls |
|---|---|
Billing alerts | The 80% usage warning, and nothing else. The 100% notice and the trial reminders ignore this switch — see below. |
Product updates | New recommendation models are ready, A/B test winners, tests paused by their guardrail, and your first attributed order. |
Weekly performance summary | The Monday summary, and nothing else. |

Settings → Email preferences: who receives email, and which kinds.
What you cannot turn off, and why
Seven emails ignore the switches. Each one is about your account or about what your storefront is doing right now, so you get it either way:
- Welcome — it confirms the install worked and shows you where to start.
- Your catalog is ready — it confirms the first sync finished and tells you if products are waiting over your plan limit.
- Your subscription is active and Your store is now on the Free plan — these are changes to what you pay.
- Your trial ends soon — sent 3 days and 1 day before a free trial ends, because Shopify then starts to charge for your plan. You hear about a charge before it happens, whatever your switches say.
- Customer data export ready — a privacy law gives you 30 days to answer the shopper, so this cannot be muted.
- You have reached your limit — this one is not a warning. It means your storefront has already changed: recommendation personalization pauses (widgets based on a shopper's own browsing or orders show trending products and best sellers), and search runs in keyword mode. You need to know that even if you have muted billing email.
The 80% warning is different, and the difference is deliberate. At 80% nothing has changed on your storefront yet, so it is a courtesy note — and Billing alerts switches it off. Turning off billing email therefore silences the heads-up but never the "your storefront has changed" notice.
Who receives the emails
Your store owner contact email from Shopify always receives email from the app. You cannot remove it. You can add up to five more addresses for the rest of your team. A sixth address is refused with a message; remove one and save again. After a save, “Saved just now” shows next to the button.
- Go to Settings → Email preferences in the PersonalizerAI dashboard.
- Type the addresses in Additional recipients, separated by commas.
- Click Save changes.
Unsubscribe
Every optional email carries an Unsubscribe link in its footer, and works with the one-click unsubscribe button your email app shows. Both do the same thing.
The change lands on the same switches you see in Settings → Email preferences, so you can turn the category back on there at any time. Emails you cannot turn off carry a Manage email preferences link instead of an unsubscribe link — it opens the same screen.
What the app does not email you about
- Marketing and announcements. The app sends no promotional email. Every email it sends reports something that happened in your own store.
- Setup tips over your first days. There is no series of onboarding emails. Welcome and Your catalog is ready are the only messages about setting up.
- Sync failures. Check the Data sync status table and the webhook log on Settings → Data sync. See Data sync settings.
- Anything a shopper does. The app never emails your shoppers, and it never emails you about an individual shopper.
An email did not arrive
- Check the category switch on Settings → Email preferences. Somebody may have unsubscribed, which turns the switch off.
- Check Additional recipients on the same screen for a typo.
- Check the spam folder for the address, and allow mail from our domain.
- Open Notifications in the PersonalizerAI dashboard. If the message is there with no Emailed marker, the email was not sent — go back to step 1.
- For the weekly summary, confirm the week had activity. An all-zero week is skipped.
If the email still does not arrive, contact support: in your Shopify admin, open Settings in the app and use the Help & support section; in the PersonalizerAI dashboard, open Help.
